Stinging Nettle, Urtica dioca, increases the excretion of chlorides, uric acid and other acid metabolites from the body, which may help to alleviate the symptoms associated with gout and arthritis. The same cleansing action is of value in chronic skin conditions, especially the itchy complaints such as eczema and nettle rash, where it also appears to possess an anti-allergic action.
An acute attack of gout occurs as a result of uric acid crystals being deposited in joint tissues. This occurs most predominantly at the base of the big toe, but gout can affect any joint of the body.
White blood cells ingest these crystalline deposits, releasing enzymes which then cause inflammation. The detoxifying and cleansing action of Urtica eliminates the crystals. This same mechanism explains the benefits of using Stinging Nettle in those with rheumatism and arthritis.
Stinging Nettle has an antihistamine-type effect and may be of benefit in allergic conditions such as urticaria and hayfever.
Menopausal women may also find Stinging Nettle to be helpful in reducing hot flushes and night sweats. Stinging Nettle is also nutritionally rich in many vitamins and minerals and is often considered to be an excellent blood tonic.

Dosage and use:
Adults:
