Description

Sweet Thyme has a clean, herbaceous, green aroma and is very useful during bouts of illness. It is a great oil for lethargy, digestive problems and respiratory conditions.

Country of Origin: Spain

Plant Family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae).

Method of Extraction: The oil is produced by steam-distillation of the leaves and flowering tops.

Main Theraputic Properties: Antibacterial, Anticatarrhal, Anti-infectious, Neurotonic, Digestive stimulant, Antirheumatic.

Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses.

Chakra: Base & Heart.

Chinese Element: Water & Metal.

The distillation of the oil is mainly undertaken in Spain, but also occurs elsewhere in the Mediterranean region. There are many different species of Thyme and within Thymus Vulgaris there are a variety of chemotypes that change the constituent make-up of the oil significantly.

The most common chemotypes are “Thymol” and “Carvacrol”, which contain high levels of toxic Phenols (up to 60% Thymol and Carvacrol).  Absolute Aromas offers “Sweet Thyme”, which is sweeter, less toxic and less irritant than the Thymol and Carvacrol types, with a maximum 3% concentration of these components.

Try adding 1 drop each of Thyme, Lemon and Rosemary to the water in an oil burner to help create a ‘germ-free zone’ during times of family ills.

Blend 2 drops of Thyme, 3 drops of Geranium and 1 drop of Palmarosa in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil. Use as a body massage oil to help you get back on your feet after illness or if you are feeling run-down.

A wonderful citrus aroma which uplifts, cleanses and tones. May Chang is an excellent room deodoriser and insect repellent.
Plant Family: Lauraceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the pepper shaped fruits. Properties: antiseptic, non-irritant, astringent. Contraindications: May irritate the skin or mucous membrane. Do not use on sensitive or damaged skin. Oil Appearance: Pale Yellow. Oil of May Chang is a comparatively new essential oil to the West. It is steam-distilled from the pepper-shaped fruits (Cubeba) of this tropical tree. The strong lemon odour of the main constituent (Citral - 75%) dominates and hence the oil resembles Lemongrass, although it has a rounder and more fruity aroma. While the synonym Litsea Citrata is often given for May Chang, Litsea Citrata is a related species with a lower Citral content. Use 5 or 6 drops in an oil burner to ward of insects. For oily or problem skin, try adding a few drops of May Chang to skin cleansing products to boost astringent and anti-bacterial properties, (not suitable for sensitive skin).
For a luxurious, nourishing facial moisturiser, blend 2 drops of Frankincense with 1 drop of Rose (preferably Otto) in 10ml of Evening Primrose or Borage oil and apply sparingly. The Frankincense, or Olibanum, is a small tree which grows to a height of up to 7 meters. It has narrow leaves and pale pink or white flowers. The East African origin refers mainly to Somalian resin, but some of it also comes out of Kenya. Olibanum comes from the bark of the boswellia species, which is prompted to exude resin when incisions are made in the bark. This oil is distilled in France from top quality resin. European distillation allows better control over production than oils distilled at source. Ingredients  Frankincense (Boswellia Carterii) Uses For a luxurious, nourishing facial moisturiser, blend 2 drops of Frankincense with 1 drop of Rose (preferably Otto) in 10ml of Evening Primrose or Borage oil and apply sparingly. To help quiet the mind after a hectic day in the office place 2 drops of Frankincense and 2 drops of Bergamot in a burner or diffuser. Alternatively blend the same oils in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil and add the blend to a warm bath. Country of Origin: Somalia. Plant Family: Burseraceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the gum resin. Properties: Antibacterial, Analgesic, Antispasmodic, Calmative, Immune tonic. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: Egyptian women used to paint their eyelids with the charred gum, it produced a black powder called Kohl, much like eyeliner that we use today. Chakra: Base & Crown. Chinese Element: Earth (& Metal).Ylang Ylang has a beautiful exotic, heady, floral and sensual aroma. It is great for relaxing and soothing the mind and body and is also a well known aphrodisiac. Country of Origin: Comoros Islands. Plant Family: Annonaceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the flowers. Main Theraputic Properties: Aphrodisiac, Calmative, Anti-inflammatory, Antispasmodic. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: In Indonesia, Ylang Ylang flowers are spread on newlyweds beds on their wedding night. Oil Appearance: Pale Yellow. Chakra: Base, Sacral & Heart. Chinese Element: Fire When Ylang Ylang is distilled, the first fraction is separated out and called Ylang Ylang Extra. The next fraction is known as Ylang Ylang I, then II and finally III. Ylang Ylang I contains more of the heavier, floral base notes. Ylang Ylang III tends to go into soaps and everyday products. We have selected this exquisite Ylang Ylang from the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean, where the climate and soil is ideal for excellent quality Ylang Ylang. Ylang Ylang is one of the most popular essential oils for diffusing. It also blends well with Sandalwood, Bergamot, Rose, Jasmine, May Chang or Sweet Orange. For a sensual massage blend, mix 2 drops of Ylang Ylang and 2 drops of Sandalwood in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil.
Sweet Marjoram has a sweet herbaceous aroma. It is a relaxing, warming and comforting oil particularly good for overthinking and worry. It is also great for muscular aches and pains, lethargy and digestive problems.
Country of Origin: Egypt. Plant Family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae). Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the dried leaves and flowering tops. Main Theraputic Properties: Analgesic, Antibacterial, Anticatarrhal, Antispasmodic, Calmative, Digestive stimulant, Neurotonic, Stomachic. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: In Greece, the flowers from this herb were used to crown married couples. They were said to be a symbol of love and honour. Oil Appearance: Pale yellow or amber. Chakra:Heart & Solar Plexus. Chinese Element: Earth (& Fire). Origanum Majorana is a strongly aromatic oil vaguely reminiscent of Nutmeg and Cardamom. Egypt is the prime source for this oil. It is important to differentiate between the various types of Marjoram, Thyme and Oregano as their names tend to get very confusing, even to experts. Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil makes up only a small proportion of the Marjoram oils produced, most of which tend to be Spanish Marjoram. Spanish Marjoram (Oregano) is a completely different species, Thymus Masticina, and the so-called Wild Marjoram is the common garden herb, Origanum Vulgare, cultivated all over the world. Sweet Marjoram (Origanum Majorana) is well known as a culinary herb cultivated in gardens all over the world. Try blending 1 drop of Sweet Majoram, 2 drops of Mandarin and 3 drops of Lavender in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil and add to a warm bath before bedtime. Blend 1 drop each of Sweet Marjoram, Rosemary and Cypress in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil and use as an after-sport massage oil.
Cypress has a woody aroma and is strongly anti-septic and astringent. The Chinese consider the Cypress nuts very nutritious and of benefit for chest complaints. Due to it's antirheumatic properties, the oil has also been used for joint pain.
Country of Origin: Spain Plant Family: Cupressaceae Method of Extraction: The oil is distilled from the leaves and twigs of the Cypress tree. Main Theraputic Properties: Antirheumatic, Antispasmodic, Calmative, Neurotonic, Astringent. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: Cypress has been associated to the planet Pluto, a symbol in astrology of psychological transformation and inner renewal. Chakra: Base & Heart. Chinese Element: Metal (& Water) The Cypress tree is an evergreen conifer which grows to a height of up to 45 meters. Much of the production is from pruning the trees that are used as windbreaks in the Mediterranean area. Because of its woody, balsamic smell, Cypress is used extensively in men's toiletries and is therefore popular as an ingredient in home-made blends. For a light, aftershave facial oil, blend 15ml of Jojoba oil with 2 drops of Cypress, 2 drops of Sandalwood and 1 drop of Bergamot. Apply sparingly. Too enthusiastic at the gym?!  Add 2 drops of Cypress, 2 drops of Rosemary and 1 drop of Lavender to a bowl of boiling water. Lay a folded flannel in the water, wring and place it on the aching area. Alternatively, blend the above oils with a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil and stir it into a warm bath.
