Description

Sweet Thyme has a clean, herbaceous, green aroma and is very useful during bouts of illness. It is a great oil for lethargy, digestive problems and respiratory conditions.

Country of Origin: Spain

Plant Family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae).

Method of Extraction: The oil is produced by steam-distillation of the leaves and flowering tops.

Main Theraputic Properties: Antibacterial, Anticatarrhal, Anti-infectious, Neurotonic, Digestive stimulant, Antirheumatic.

Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses.

Chakra: Base & Heart.

Chinese Element: Water & Metal.

The distillation of the oil is mainly undertaken in Spain, but also occurs elsewhere in the Mediterranean region. There are many different species of Thyme and within Thymus Vulgaris there are a variety of chemotypes that change the constituent make-up of the oil significantly.

The most common chemotypes are “Thymol” and “Carvacrol”, which contain high levels of toxic Phenols (up to 60% Thymol and Carvacrol).  Absolute Aromas offers “Sweet Thyme”, which is sweeter, less toxic and less irritant than the Thymol and Carvacrol types, with a maximum 3% concentration of these components.

Try adding 1 drop each of Thyme, Lemon and Rosemary to the water in an oil burner to help create a ‘germ-free zone’ during times of family ills.

Blend 2 drops of Thyme, 3 drops of Geranium and 1 drop of Palmarosa in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil. Use as a body massage oil to help you get back on your feet after illness or if you are feeling run-down.

Grapefruit has a wonderful uplifting aroma, like many of the citrus oils, and is also cleansing, clarifying and refreshing. We have selected this excellent oil for its clean, fresh odour. Grapefruit oil is also great for promoting a 'lightness of spirit' in times of tension and worry.

Main Theraputic Properties: Antiseptic, Digestive stimulant, Lymphatic decongestant. Contraindications: Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and sunbed rays for 12 hours after application (phototoxic). Oil Appearance: Yellow-Green. Chakra: Solar Plexus & Sacral. Chinese Element: Wood (& Earth) Grapefruit comes from a cultivated tree that grows up to 10 meters in height. Grapefruit has a fresh, sweet, clean citrus scent. The main origins for Grapefruit are Italy, Israel and USA, though now South Africa is coming strongly into the market.  We have selected this excellent American product for its clean, fresh odour. If you need a pick-me-up first thing in the morning, try adding 3 drops of Grapefruit, 2 drops of Rosemary and 1 drop of Bergamot, blended in a teaspoon of Sweet Almond oil, to a bath. Alternatively stir the same essential oils into a dose of unfragranced shower gel. To improve the appearance of cellulite, blend 3 drops of Grapefruit and 3 drops of Juniperberry with 15ml of Coconut oil and massage the area vigorously. Always try to work in the direction of the heart. In a burner or diffuser, Grapefruit blends well with the other citrus oils and herbs such as Rosemary, Clary Sage, Thyme or Lavender.
Rosemary is the classic 'get up and go' oil. It has a clear, fresh, herbaceous aroma. It is great used in a diffuser for concentration and study and also good to use in a shower gel to wake you up in the morning. Rosemary is also great to use in a massage blend for muscular aches and pains.

Rosemary is an evergreen shrub which grows up to 180cm in height. This oil is clear in colour. There are three main types of Rosemary. The best one for aromatherapy use is the eucalyptol (cineole) chemotype, from Tunisia, Morcco and Italy. The camphor chemotype comes from Spain, and the verbenone chemotype comes from Algeria and Corsica. The latter is contra-indicated due to neuro-toxicity. We supply the finest quality Tunisian Rosemary, which is a superior product. Try adding 3 drops of Rosemary, 2 drops of Lemon and 1 drop of Peppermint to a tepid bath before an important occasion. Adding a few drops to the final rinsing water for dark hair can help keep a natural shine. To aid concentration, in the office or when studying, add 3 drops of Rosemary and two drops of Grapefruit to the water in an oil burner of diffuser. Peppermint is also a good oil for concentraion and blends well with Rosemary. Use a blend of 2 drops Rosemary, 2 Drops Black Pepper and 3 drops Lavender in 15ml of Peach Kernel, and massage into over worked muscles.
Myrrh is distilled from a resin which has been used since antiquity. It has a sweet, smoky, slightly musky aroma. This oil is soothing, clarifying and grounding. It is a great oil to ease a worried mind and is also used in India as a remedy for infections of the gums and teeth.
Country of Origin: Somalia. Plant Family: Burseraceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is distilled from the resin of the Myrrh tree. Did you know: It is said no soldier of Ancient Greece went into battle without a paste of myrrh, ready for use on injuries Oil Appearance: Pale to Dark Amber. Chakra: Neri Chinese Element: Earth (& Metal). There are around 80 species of Commiphora, the resin is collected from these thorny shrubs which are up to 3 meters in height. Myrrh has acquired a reputation as a healer over the centuries and as such can be beneficial when used in inhalations to help ease winter ills. Place 1 drop each of Myrrh, Benzoin and Lavender in a bowl of boiling water. Drape a towel across your head and shoulders and inhale the vapours for a few minutes. Try blending 1 drop of Myrrh, 2 drops of Geranium and 1 drop of Peppermint in 10ml of Coconut oil to use as a massage oil on neglected feet. Myrrh is extremely viscous, and therefore more difficult to use. We use a larger dropper for this oil, but with time it may solidify. The only solution is to warm the oil gently in the hands before use, and to be patient!
Eucalyptus Globulus is a wonderfully clearing, camphoraceous essentail oil. It is excellent for colds and chills. Australian Aborigines refer to the plant as 'Kino' and bind the leaves to serious wounds. Country of Origin: China. Plant Family: Myrtaceae. Alternatively, blend the same oils in two teaspoons of Sweet Almond oil and massage into the chest and back. Chinese Element: Water (& Metal) Juniper is a prickly evergreen shrub (or small tree). It grows to a height of up to 12 meters. Juniperberry has a bittersweet, fresh, astringent aroma. There are two types of oil produced from the Juniper plant. One is the superior quality Juniperberry oil, made from the berries. The other type is often referred to as Juniper oil, an inferior product distilled from the twigs and leaves.  Some Juniper oils are produced as a by-product of the fermentation process. Our Juniperberry oil is steam distilled from premier-grade Juniper berries, giving an excellent, high quality oil, ideal for aromatherapy. The Juniper fruits are widely used for gin production. Try a vigorous massage with a blend of 2 drops of Juniperberry and 2 drops of Grapefruit in 10ml of Coconut oil. Or add this to an unfragranced shower gel, the same essential oils have a cleansing and refreshing effect. Also, after any period of indulgence, try making the following body massage oil a New Years resolution: Blend together 30ml of Peach Kernel oil, 4 drops of Juniperberry, 4 drops of Rosemary and 3 drops of Geranium.
