Plant Family: Lauraceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the pepper shaped fruits. Properties: antiseptic, non-irritant, astringent. Contraindications: May irritate the skin or mucous membrane. Do not use on sensitive or damaged skin. Oil Appearance: Pale Yellow. Oil of May Chang is a comparatively new essential oil to the West. It is steam-distilled from the pepper-shaped fruits (Cubeba) of this tropical tree. The strong lemon odour of the main constituent (Citral - 75%) dominates and hence the oil resembles Lemongrass, although it has a rounder and more fruity aroma. While the synonym Litsea Citrata is often given for May Chang, Litsea Citrata is a related species with a lower Citral content. Use 5 or 6 drops in an oil burner to ward of insects. For oily or problem skin, try adding a few drops of May Chang to skin cleansing products to boost astringent and anti-bacterial properties, (not suitable for sensitive skin).
Cypress has a woody aroma and is strongly anti-septic and astringent. The Chinese consider the Cypress nuts very nutritious and of benefit for chest complaints. Due to it's antirheumatic properties, the oil has also been used for joint pain.
Country of Origin: Spain Plant Family: Cupressaceae Method of Extraction: The oil is distilled from the leaves and twigs of the Cypress tree. Main Theraputic Properties: Antirheumatic, Antispasmodic, Calmative, Neurotonic, Astringent. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: Cypress has been associated to the planet Pluto, a symbol in astrology of psychological transformation and inner renewal. Chakra: Base & Heart. Chinese Element: Metal (& Water) The Cypress tree is an evergreen conifer which grows to a height of up to 45 meters. Much of the production is from pruning the trees that are used as windbreaks in the Mediterranean area. Because of its woody, balsamic smell, Cypress is used extensively in men's toiletries and is therefore popular as an ingredient in home-made blends. For a light, aftershave facial oil, blend 15ml of Jojoba oil with 2 drops of Cypress, 2 drops of Sandalwood and 1 drop of Bergamot. Apply sparingly. Too enthusiastic at the gym?!  Add 2 drops of Cypress, 2 drops of Rosemary and 1 drop of Lavender to a bowl of boiling water. Lay a folded flannel in the water, wring and place it on the aching area. Alternatively, blend the above oils with a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil and stir it into a warm bath.
Ylang Ylang has a beautiful exotic, heady, floral and sensual aroma. It is great for relaxing and soothing the mind and body and is also a well known aphrodisiac. Country of Origin: Comoros Islands. Plant Family: Annonaceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the flowers. Main Theraputic Properties: Aphrodisiac, Calmative, Anti-inflammatory, Antispasmodic. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: In Indonesia, Ylang Ylang flowers are spread on newlyweds beds on their wedding night. Oil Appearance: Pale Yellow. Chakra: Base, Sacral & Heart. Chinese Element: Fire When Ylang Ylang is distilled, the first fraction is separated out and called Ylang Ylang Extra. The next fraction is known as Ylang Ylang I, then II and finally III. Ylang Ylang I contains more of the heavier, floral base notes. Ylang Ylang III tends to go into soaps and everyday products. We have selected this exquisite Ylang Ylang from the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean, where the climate and soil is ideal for excellent quality Ylang Ylang. Ylang Ylang is one of the most popular essential oils for diffusing. It also blends well with Sandalwood, Bergamot, Rose, Jasmine, May Chang or Sweet Orange. For a sensual massage blend, mix 2 drops of Ylang Ylang and 2 drops of Sandalwood in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil.Lemon myrtle has a rich lemony, reviving aroma useful for uplifting moods and emotions, helping you to relax, lulling you to sleep. Lemon myrtle works well in facial blends for an oily, combination or problem skin.
