Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the flowers. Main Theraputic Properties: Aphrodisiac, Calmative, Anti-inflammatory, Antispasmodic. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: In Indonesia, Ylang Ylang flowers are spread on newlyweds beds on their wedding night. Oil Appearance: Pale Yellow. Chakra: Base, Sacral & Heart. Chinese Element: Fire When Ylang Ylang is distilled, the first fraction is separated out and called Ylang Ylang Extra. The next fraction is known as Ylang Ylang I, then II and finally III. Ylang Ylang I contains more of the heavier, floral base notes. Ylang Ylang III tends to go into soaps and everyday products. We have selected this exquisite Ylang Ylang from the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean, where the climate and soil is ideal for excellent quality Ylang Ylang. Ylang Ylang is one of the most popular essential oils for diffusing. It also blends well with Sandalwood, Bergamot, Rose, Jasmine, May Chang or Sweet Orange. For a sensual massage blend, mix 2 drops of Ylang Ylang and 2 drops of Sandalwood in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil.Eucalyptus Citriodora is fresh, clearing and lemony. Main Theraputic Properties: Analgesic, Anticatarrhal, Anti-inflammatory, Decongestant, Antirheumatic, Antispasmodic. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Oil Appearance: Colourless - pale yellow. Chakra: Heart & Brow Chinese Element: Metal Eucalyptus Citriadora is a tall evergreen tree. In common with other Eucalyptus species, Eucalyptus Citriodora (Lemon-scented Eucalyptus) is originally from Australia but is now cultivated mainly in China and Brazil. Use  8-10 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora in a diffuser or burner to ward off insects. Alternatively, dilute 5 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora in 10ml Absolute Aromas Coconut oil (do not use the unfractionated or solid version, apply a light coating to exposed areas of skin. Avoid the eyes and mouth.) To refresh and cleanse tired feet, add 3 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora, 1 drop of Cypress and 2 drops of Tea Tree to a bowl of warm water or footbath/spa and soak for ten minutes. Eucalyptus Citriodora is often used as a minor ingredient in soap and detergent perfumes to add freshness and is commonly the active ingredient in natural insect repellents. Eucalyptus Radiata and Globulus have a higher pinene content and are therefore more useful in steam inhalation
Geranium has a delightful, fresh, green, rose-like scent and is an excellent balancing oil for all-round use and is especially popular with women.
Country of Origin: Reunion. Plant Family: Geraniaceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the plants leaves. Bourbon Geranium is considered the finest type of Geranium.  It comes from the island of La Réunion (previously known as Île de Bourbon), 500 miles east of Madagascar, in the Indian Ocean.  The island has the ideal climate and soil conditions for production of geranium. Pelargonium graveolens is clear to light green in colour and not to be confused with the household variety of geranium, which is a completely different species. It is a greenish coloured oil, with a very strong, well-balanced odour.  The difference between this oil and the Egyptian or Chinese is so significant that Absolute Aromas also stocks an Egyptian Geranium. Geranium blends very well with the citrus oils.  It is deodorising, cleansing and uplifting as well as having good insect-repellent properties. The odour of the Bourbon Geranium is quite powerful and it may dominate over other oils in a blend. Try blending 1 drop of Geranium with 2 drops of Lavender and 2 drops of Mandarin in a teaspoon of Sweet Almond oil for use as a relaxing, refreshing bath oil. Alternatively, blend the same oils with two teaspoons of Peach Kernel oil for a special hydrating body moisturiser with a delicious aroma. After a long haul flight, try blending together 2 drops of Geranium, 1 Drop each of Juniper and Lavender in 10 ml of Peach Kernel; massage in to the ankles to encourage elimination.
A wonderful citrus aroma which uplifts, cleanses and tones. May Chang is an excellent room deodoriser and insect repellent.
Plant Family: Lauraceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the pepper shaped fruits. Properties: antiseptic, non-irritant, astringent. Contraindications: May irritate the skin or mucous membrane. Do not use on sensitive or damaged skin. Oil Appearance: Pale Yellow. Oil of May Chang is a comparatively new essential oil to the West. It is steam-distilled from the pepper-shaped fruits (Cubeba) of this tropical tree. The strong lemon odour of the main constituent (Citral - 75%) dominates and hence the oil resembles Lemongrass, although it has a rounder and more fruity aroma. While the synonym Litsea Citrata is often given for May Chang, Litsea Citrata is a related species with a lower Citral content. Use 5 or 6 drops in an oil burner to ward of insects. For oily or problem skin, try adding a few drops of May Chang to skin cleansing products to boost astringent and anti-bacterial properties, (not suitable for sensitive skin).
Cypress has a woody aroma and is strongly anti-septic and astringent. The Chinese consider the Cypress nuts very nutritious and of benefit for chest complaints. Due to it's antirheumatic properties, the oil has also been used for joint pain.
Country of Origin: Spain Plant Family: Cupressaceae Method of Extraction: The oil is distilled from the leaves and twigs of the Cypress tree. Main Theraputic Properties: Antirheumatic, Antispasmodic, Calmative, Neurotonic, Astringent. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: Cypress has been associated to the planet Pluto, a symbol in astrology of psychological transformation and inner renewal. Chakra: Base & Heart. Chinese Element: Metal (& Water) The Cypress tree is an evergreen conifer which grows to a height of up to 45 meters. Much of the production is from pruning the trees that are used as windbreaks in the Mediterranean area. Because of its woody, balsamic smell, Cypress is used extensively in men's toiletries and is therefore popular as an ingredient in home-made blends. For a light, aftershave facial oil, blend 15ml of Jojoba oil with 2 drops of Cypress, 2 drops of Sandalwood and 1 drop of Bergamot. Apply sparingly. Too enthusiastic at the gym?!  Add 2 drops of Cypress, 2 drops of Rosemary and 1 drop of Lavender to a bowl of boiling water. Lay a folded flannel in the water, wring and place it on the aching area. Alternatively, blend the above oils with a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil and stir it into a warm bath.
