Juniperberry is best known for cleansing and encouraging elimination, ideal for beating those morning-after blues and also a good oil for detoxing. Juniper is also a good tonic for the kidneys, it's antibacterial properties can help with urinary problems.

Main Theraputic Properties: Antibacterial, Anticatarrhal, Antirheumatic, Neurotonic, Lymphatic decongestant, Detoxicant. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Chinese Element: Water (& Metal) Juniper is a prickly evergreen shrub (or small tree). It grows to a height of up to 12 meters. Juniperberry has a bittersweet, fresh, astringent aroma. There are two types of oil produced from the Juniper plant. One is the superior quality Juniperberry oil, made from the berries. The other type is often referred to as Juniper oil, an inferior product distilled from the twigs and leaves.  Some Juniper oils are produced as a by-product of the fermentation process. Our Juniperberry oil is steam distilled from premier-grade Juniper berries, giving an excellent, high quality oil, ideal for aromatherapy. The Juniper fruits are widely used for gin production. Try a vigorous massage with a blend of 2 drops of Juniperberry and 2 drops of Grapefruit in 10ml of Coconut oil. Or add this to an unfragranced shower gel, the same essential oils have a cleansing and refreshing effect. Also, after any period of indulgence, try making the following body massage oil a New Years resolution: Blend together 30ml of Peach Kernel oil, 4 drops of Juniperberry, 4 drops of Rosemary and 3 drops of Geranium. Apply daily, preferably in the morning.
Sweet Thyme has a clean, herbaceous, green aroma and is very useful during bouts of illness. It is a great oil for lethargy, digestive problems and respiratory conditions.
Country of Origin: Spain

Plant Family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae).

Method of Extraction: The oil is produced by steam-distillation of the leaves and flowering tops.

Main Theraputic Properties: Antibacterial, Anticatarrhal, Anti-infectious, Neurotonic, Digestive stimulant, Antirheumatic.

Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Chakra: Base & Heart. Chinese Element: Water & Metal.

The distillation of the oil is mainly undertaken in Spain, but also occurs elsewhere in the Mediterranean region. There are many different species of Thyme and within Thymus Vulgaris there are a variety of chemotypes that change the constituent make-up of the oil significantly.

The most common chemotypes are "Thymol" and "Carvacrol", which contain high levels of toxic Phenols (up to 60% Thymol and Carvacrol).  Absolute Aromas offers "Sweet Thyme", which is sweeter, less toxic and less irritant than the Thymol and Carvacrol types, with a maximum 3% concentration of these components.

Try adding 1 drop each of Thyme, Lemon and Rosemary to the water in an oil burner to help create a 'germ-free zone' during times of family ills. Blend 2 drops of Thyme, 3 drops of Geranium and 1 drop of Palmarosa in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil. Use as a body massage oil to help you get back on your feet after illness or if you are feeling run-down.
Coriander is a bittersweet, spicy, peppery oil with a warming and uplifting aroma. It is a great oil for the digestive system thus a good choice for abdominal massage. It is also one of the world'd oldest culinary spices.
Country of Origin: Russia. Plant Family: Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the crushed seeds of the fruit. Main Theraputic Properties: Analgesic, Antispasmodic, Digestive stimulant, Antibacterial. Contraindications: Non toxic and non irritant in prescribed doses. Did you know: Coriander was used as a herb of protection in medieval Europe, people would hang it in their homes or have it growing in their garden to bring security and peace to their households. Oil Appearance: Pale yellow. Chakra: Solar Plexus and Sacral Chinese Element: Earth & Fire Coriander is a herb that grows up to 90cm in height. It has green leaves, small white flowers and small round fruits. It is colourless to pale yellow and cultivated all over Europe, particularly in Russia. When convalescing or generally lacking appetite, try a daily abdomen massage with 1 drop of Coriander and 2 drops of Bergamot, blended in two teaspoons of Peach Kernel oil. Always massage the abdomen in a clockwise direction. Or, try 2 drops of Coriander and 2 drops of Ginger, diluted in one teaspoon of Coconut oil and added to a warm bath to lift your spirits and ease general aches and pains.
A wonderful citrus aroma which uplifts, cleanses and tones. May Chang is an excellent room deodoriser and insect repellent.
Plant Family: Lauraceae. Method of Extraction: The oil is steam distilled from the pepper shaped fruits. Properties: antiseptic, non-irritant, astringent. Contraindications: May irritate the skin or mucous membrane. Do not use on sensitive or damaged skin. Oil Appearance: Pale Yellow. Oil of May Chang is a comparatively new essential oil to the West. It is steam-distilled from the pepper-shaped fruits (Cubeba) of this tropical tree. The strong lemon odour of the main constituent (Citral - 75%) dominates and hence the oil resembles Lemongrass, although it has a rounder and more fruity aroma. While the synonym Litsea Citrata is often given for May Chang, Litsea Citrata is a related species with a lower Citral content. Use 5 or 6 drops in an oil burner to ward of insects. For oily or problem skin, try adding a few drops of May Chang to skin cleansing products to boost astringent and anti-bacterial properties, (not suitable for sensitive skin).
